Post-punk trio Omni has risen like a phoenix over the last year. Featuring guitarist Frankie Broyles (ex-Balkans and Deerhunter), bass player Philip Frobos (ex-Carnivores), and drummer and regular Crib Notes contributor Billy Mitchell (ex-Carnivores and the Back Pockets), the group brings little allegiance to each member’s former glories. Omni’s sound fits loosely alongside Atlanta’s long lineage of garage-based punk and rock ’n’ roll, but the group has more in common with late ’70s and early ’80s new wave; bands such as Devo, Pylon, Television, and Magazine all come to mind when sorting through Omni’s tangible musical complexities.

Omni is set to release its debut LP, Deluxe, on July 8 via Chicago-based label Trouble in Mind. In the meantime, the group has shared a video for the album’s second single, “Wire.” Directed by singer and guitarist Broyles, the combination of vintage digital technologies and quick VHS camcorder cuts cements the band’s aesthetic in place.
