Arts Agenda - New gallery director appointed at ACA

Lisa Fischman has been named director of the Atlanta College of Art Gallery. Currently serving as associate curator of Contemporary Art/Education at the University of Buffalo Art Gallery, SUNY Buffalo, Fischman will begin work here in November.Fischman has a Ph.D. in art history and American studies from the University of Minnesota. Her curatorial work has focused on “modern and contemporary art in all media, and particularly on connections between art and its broader social and cultural contexts,” she says. At the University of Buffalo, Fischman curated Meyer Family Collection: Prints from the New York Federal Art Project, featuring fine art prints by WPA artists from New York state; Joe Sacco, a survey of original ink panels from his journalistic comics; and Judith Yourman: Offending History, the artist’s complete multi-media “female offenders” series.
“The gallery has a very contemporary focus and [Fischman] will continue to advance that emphasis,” says Ellen Meyer, president of the Atlanta College of Art.
