’’GANGSTER SQUAD: (R) In 1950’s Los Angeles, the city is run by Brooklyn-born mobster Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn), Cohen is as crooked as a hillbilly’s teeth; paying off politicians and police to run his gambling and prostitution ring uninterrupted. The town seems lost to authority until a small group of LAPD officers ban together to take the city back. Leaving behind their badges and rules, these police officers form a kill squad bent on taking Cohen down. Staring Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte and Emma Stone, this action film hopes to distract from the lackluster script with a power cast, lots of explosions and ample gun play.
A HAUNTED HOUSE: (R) Marlon Wayans feels familiar in this horror-movie spoof film (in the same vein as the Scary Movie franchise) where he plays Malcolm who has just moved into a dream house with his girlfriend Kisha. Something seems to be wrong with the house, but Malcolm isn’t ready to give up on it yet. Soon after, Kisha becomes possessed by a ghost, and Malcolm is willing to do anything from hiring the ghost busters to psychics to priests to save Kisha. The spoof film combines aspects of the Paranormal Activity franchise, along with a mix of The Devil Inside’’ and other “found-footage” horror films; cheap laughs and potty humor at its finest.
ZERO DARK THIRTY: (R) The highly-anticipated follow up to The Hurt Locker’’ from director-producer Kathryn Bigelow and writer-producer Mark Boal, creates a gripping recount of the dramatic hunt for Osama bin Laden. With the United States spending billions to find the man responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and not growing any closer to finding him, a young CIA analyst named Maya believes she knows where bin Laden is hiding. Watch the drama unfold as a team of Navy SEALS attempt to kill bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world.
DULY NOTED

CHILD’S PLAY: (R) This slasher flick in the ‘Chuckie’ film series shows where it all began, serial killer Brad Dourif imparts his soul and mind into a child’s doll right before he dies using a voodoo spell. The doll, named ‘Chuckie’ is then unknowingly sold to a mother and given to her son. Even in his toy shell, Dourif can’t resist murdering again, and after a string of murders, all evidence points to the son who owns the Chuckie doll. But little do they know these murders are more than just ‘child’s play.’ Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. at 11:30 p.m. tonight ‘’
I AM NOT A HIPSTER: (NR) While the title appears lighthearted, this film follows a muscian living in San Diego and despite his fame, happiness is hard to find. His indie tracks are a huge hit, but Brook is dealing with trying to escape the death of his mother while everyone wants him to come to terms with it. While searching for his next creative hit, Brook must face the tragedy in his own life. Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave.
