Ed Loves Bacon - The Stay In for New Year’s Eve TV Guide



Ok, so you maybe you really don’t have a thing to wear. Or maybe you don’t like crowds of drunken party-goers screaming and celebrating the turn of another year. Heck, maybe you’re having a gathering at home and need an official countdown to bring in the New Year. Whatever your reason, you can find what you need on TV this New Year’s Eve.  Here’s a list of countdown shows, specials and TV-show marathons to help you decide where to set your sights.

Annual network countdowns:




Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest (ABC), 11:30 PM

Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest ring in the New Year with the countdown from Times Square in New York City, while Fergie hosts the festivities from Las Vegas. A variety of musical guests will perform in each location.








New Year’s Eve Live (Fox), 11 PM

Host Carmen Electra welcomes 2010 in Las Vegas, where Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta and Sean Kingston are slated to perform. Also: the opening of Eva Longoria Parker’s Vegas restaurant and nightclub, with appearances by Longoria Parker and Kim Kardashian; coverage of the ball drop from New York City’s Times Square; a Top 5 countdown of 2009’s best moments in movies, music and TV; and highlights from past Billboard Music Awards.






New Year’s Eve with Carson Daily (NBC), 10 PM

Carson Daly rings in 2010 with the sixth annual year-end celebration from Times Square in New York City. Slated performers include Green Day and Rihanna. Natalie Morales and Alison Stewart serve as on-location correspondents.




New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin (CNN), 11 PM

Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin host coverage of the New Year’s Eve celebration in New York City’s Times Square and across the country, featuring an appearance by Lance Bass from Las Vegas. Don Lemon reports from the Times Square crowd; Gary Tuchman covers the annual Midnight Run in NYC’s Central Park; Ed Henry handles the Honolulu beat; and John Zarrella reports from Key West, Florida. Bravo will be airing repeats performances of Griffin’s comedy concerts starting with Kathy Griffin: Balls of Steel at 1am, Kathy Griffin: She’ll Cut a Bitch at 2am and Kathy Griffin: Straight to Hell at 3am.

New Year. No Limits: From Long Beach, Cal. (ESPN), 11 PM

Daredevil Travis Pastrana attempts a world-record rally-car jump over water in Long Beach. The event takes place at the Pine Street Pier with the Queen Mary docked in the background.


Winter Classic New Year’s Eve Special (VS), 11PM

A preview of the outdoor game between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers, featuring player interviews, practice highlights and look-ins from Fenway Park.

106 and Party (BET), 11 PM

106 & Park’s host Terrence J brings in the new year with highlights from 2009.


Top 40 Videos of 2009 (VH1), Midnight

The top 40 videos of 2009 are counted down.


MTV s New Year s Eve: Top 9 of 2009 (MTV), 11 PM

A countdown to 2010, hosted by Adrienne Bailon and the cast of Jersey Shore. Included: a look at the most memorable moments of 2009.

New Year s Eve Star Showdown (DISNEY), 6 PM

Viewers favorite Disney episodes and music videos are featured. Also: Disney Channel stars compete in five game-show challenges.
