The last time Detroit-based musician/producer Brandon Williams played in Atlanta, at the Variety Playhouse back in 2015, he brought along a veritable murderers row of incredible vocalists to perform songs off his then-newly released soul-and-jazz- album XII. Of course, traveling with such a large cast of singers including Joi Tiffany and Anesha, among others, whose voices were also featured on XII isn’t a common practice for touring acts these days, even when promoting projects that feature a variety of talent. But for Williams, it was a no-brainer.

“I look at my live show the same way I look at production: I need to pick whoever is best for the song, and whatever it takes to get them wherever I’m performing, we’ve got to make it happen,” says Williams.

When he returns to the ATL this Wednesday to perform at City Winery, however, many local soul fans undoubtedly wonder if they’ll see this uber-talented squad of crooners? “Well they can expect the same thing as last time but not really,” he says. “I’ve got three or four vocalists coming in, I’ve got my man saxophonist Ryan Kilgore coming ??_ and I’ve got some other people coming. It’s gonna be one big party.

ATL’s own Brenda Nicole Moorer opens the show. $20-$25. 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 14. City Winery, 650 North Ave N.E., Suite 201, Ponce City Market. www.citywinery.com.
