A BREW MILE: Manchester Orchestra is hopping on the brewing game with help from the good folks at SweetWater Brewing Company

Hop City Craft Beer & Wine and SweetWater Brewing Company have collabed with ATL-native alternative rock band Manchester Orchestra to create a brew worthy of a gold medal, to say the least. Taking its name from the single “The Gold,” pulled from the group’s latest record, A Black Mile to the Surface, the golden ale is 6.1 percent ABV and brewed with Golden Promise grain and seeped in Mandarina Bavaria hops. Drinking is always better when it’s for a purpose, and the new brew benefits The Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Atlanta’s hospitality industry workers in need. Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar is going to (appropriately) crank A Black Mile to the Surface at the beer’s debut bash and members of the band will be present to shake hands and clink glasses with fans. The Gold will be on draft at SweetWater’s tasting room as well as both Atlanta Hop City locations.

Free entry. 11 a.m.-midnight. Thur., May 24. Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar, 900 Avalon Blvd., Alpharetta. www.barleygardenkitchen.com. 678-266-6218.
