Creative Loafing, in partnership with Atlanta Ballet, invites you to Liam Scarlett’s world premiere – 25% off tickets

Scarlett is the London’s Royal Ballet’s first artist in residence and the youngest choreographer invited to present his work on the Royal Ballet stage. His work Consolations and Liebestraum was nominated for a Critics’ Circle Award. His Asphodel was a winner of the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award. Scarlett has worked with the San Francisco Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre, as well as the Queensland Ballet in Australia and the Norwegian National Ballet. His latest project includes Disney’s “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.” We at Creative Loafing think this is a rare opportunity to experience a talent bringing a fresh take on a classic art form.

The show is one of three ballet performances presented by Atlanta Ballet Artistic Director Gennadi Nedvigin. The Atlanta Ballet Orchestra will perform Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 1 during the Scarlett world premiere, as well as works by Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten during the performances of Sum Stravinsky and Denouement, respectively. The Atlanta Ballet Orchestra is led by Tara Simoncic.

Atlanta Ballet has extended a 25% discount offer on tickets to Creative Loafing readers interested in attending the event.
May 10-12, 2019 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre

Opening the program is the Atlanta Ballet premiere of Sum Stravinsky from Ballet Arkansas resident choreographer and retired Pacific Northwest Ballet soloist, Kiyon Ross. Set to the music of Igor Stravinsky, this effervescent work “bubbles constantly with engaging movement and overlapping groupings” (The Boston Globe).

Denouement, created on Atlanta Ballet for the 16|17 Season by American Ballet Theatre dancer Gemma Bond, returns as part of the season finale Director’s Choice program. A transcendent work brought to life by piano and cello accompaniment, Denouement explores the passage of time and how a different choice at a pivotal moment in our life can set us on a trajectory that we never imagined.
