Best of Atlanta: Best Fried Chicken

Watershed on Peachtree Oral Pleasures, Critics

Fried chicken is one of those foods that appeals to all Americans regardless of race, gender, age or degree of culinary snobbery. Atlanta’s restaurants serve a lot of tasty birds, but the best in the city is still served on Tuesday nights at WATERSHED. Made from a recipe jointly developed by the restaurant’s executive chef Scott Peacock and his friend and mentor, Edna Lewis, the chicken is first brined for a day, marinated in buttermilk a second day, then cooked in a combination of lard and butter flavored with a slice of country ham. Tender-crisp green beans, sumptuously buttery mashed potatoes and delicate biscuits round out the meal. Wash it all down with a lovely glass of wine from the restaurant’s worldly selection. “406 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur. 404-378-4900.” More at Best Fried Chicken
