It’s been over a decade since Vanessa Carlton catapulted her single “A Thousand Miles†into ubiquity, but she hasn’t been silent. Eschewing major labels in favor of maintaining heightened control over her art, Carlton set out on her creative path with 2011’s Rabbits on the Run, her fourth full-length, and first with producer Steve Osborne. Her recent Dine Alone Records release Liberman is rife with adventurous instrumentals, but leaves room to spotlight the gritty, emotive side of her voice.
