>> Did you see the movie Whiplash this year? You should have because it's really good. It's about a young jazz drummer and his abusive teacher. And if you had told me that a movie about a young jazz drummer and his abusive teacher would keep me on the edge of my seat for the entire running time I would have said you're not my real dad JK I would have said you're hmmmm, I have my doubts, maybe, or something like that. Anyway, Vulture talked to Whiplash writer/director Damien Chazelle about how the first scene is essentially a mini version of the whole movie. It's fascinating!

>> If you chose to show up early to the recent Patti Smith show in NYC then you chose wisely. Local-ish hero Michael Stipe turned out to be the big surprise opening act, but you already knew that because you showed up early like the wise person that you are. Anyway, Stipe sang a bunch or random covers and a couple REM tunes and played keyboard and was generally adorable and amazing as per usual, I'm assuming. We miss you, Michael! It's time for that solo career to be a thing!

>> Do you ever wonder how much money those amazing songwriters make for writing amazing epic radio classic mega hits like Miley Cyrus' "Party In The U.S.A.?" Well wonder no more, yung wonderer! Amazing songwriter and singer too Jessie J made like all her money from that one song and she has no problem telling that fun fact to all the world, aka UK Glamour magazine.

>> Oh look Sharon Van Etten showed up to sing some Lou Reed tunes with her buddies Deer Tick in Brooklyn the other night. Whispery Aside: This is just the type of run of the mill cool thing that happens in Brooklyn every night, y'all, so just like act cool, cool? Cool.

>> Dogtown and Z Boys Bieber is not, thank goodness, for all of us.
