The Gizmos and Real Kids to headline the Atlanta Mess-Around
Expect plenty of nostalgic shake appeal at this year's edition of East Atlanta's grandest underground rock celebration.

The first wave of bands for the eighth annual Atlanta Mess-Around, April 29-30 at 529 and the Earl, is highlighted by two American punk forerunners. Bloomington, Indiana's the Gizmos pioneered a smirking, brash, and unapologetic sound circa 1976-'77 which still permeates Midwestern punk (see fellow Indiana bands the Coneheads and Lumpy and the Dumpers for irrefutable proof). Likewise, the Real Kids added a Boston accent to the blossoming sounds of punk and power pop throughout the late '70s and early '80s.
Legendary bands gracing the Mess-Around stage is nothing new. The annual garage-punk fest has boasted headliners ranging from the Testors and the Flamin’ Groovies to Dwight Twilley, the Marked Men, and the Zero Boys. But no single year’s lineup had this much nostalgic shake appeal.
