The Atlanta Jazz Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with a series of events throughout May, including the exhibit A 30 YEAR RETROSPECTIVE: THE ATLANTA JAZZ FESTIVAL IN PHOTOGRAPHS on view Mon., MAY 14, and through June 8. The festival has boasted A-list lineups since 1978 with performances from Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Ray Charles, Nina Simone and more. The show's memorabilia and photographs, such as Sue Ross' "Miles Runs the VooDoo Down" (pictured) from his historic (and gridlock-inducing) Grant Park concert in 1989, capture jazz's improvisational beauty and Atlanta's love for it. Free. Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. City Gallery East, City Hall East, 675 Ponce de Leon Ave. 404-853-4234. www.atlantafestivals.com.See the latest festival guide: [content-598873|Atlanta Jazz Festival]
