From South of Heaven’s website: Judd grew up in up state New York. He started helping his mom in the kitchen at an early age and quickly found a passion for cooking. It wasn’t until 2000 that he fell in love with barbecue. He competed in multiple barbecue competitions in New York before moving to Atlanta in 2001. Being in the south, he began to learn and practice traditional southern barbecue techniques. He prides himself in being self taught. His barbecue style ranges from Texas style brisket to Carolina hog. In 2014 he met Kate and together they decided that his passion should extend further than their own kitchen. Soon after their wedding in 2015, South of Heaven BBQ was born. Judd and Kate have focused on catering in the Atlanta area as well as surrounding cities. Besides catering, Judd took on the role as cheese maker at two different creameries where he made award winning cheeses. In January 2017 the Fosters added a new member to the South of Heaven family, their son, Charlie. Also, in 2017, South of Heaven BBQ was named “best caterer in Atlanta” by Creative Loafing!
