Respite VII lineup announced
Eyedrum hosts seventh gathering of seasonal drone music.
When it comes to experimental music in Atlanta, there are plenty of recurring nights filled with sonic ephemera to keep you busy. From the occasional Synaesthesia performances to monthly installments of Invent Room Pop, to a flurry of local and touring acts blitzing through town — not a month goes by that some sort of drone attraction perks the ears. Respite (formerly Respite From the Cold), the annual event curated by Eyedrum board members Nathan Brown and Robby Kee, is one of the more anticipated seasonal experimental events and never fails to deliver “quiet moods, warm sonic sundries, and deliciously cozy aural climes.” In previous years Respite has been staged at various venues around the city (Eyedrum, Mammal Gallery, First Existentialist Church, the Office (R.I.P.), with artists both local and from abroad.
Brown hints that the shindig will be organized a bit differently than previous years, but the lineup is quickly coming together. As it stands, Respite VII will include drone sets by Cursory, Magicicada, Nows, Frasers, Gelding, Cave Bat, Unit Charge, Brainworlds, and Meredith Kooi, with more names to be added shortly. Keep an eye for updates, and prepare to hunker down for a night of cozy tones.
Respite VII. $5. Sat., Dec. 20. 8 p.m. Eyedrum, 88 Forsyth Street SW. 404-578-4430. www.eyedrum.org.
