Monkier's skillfully orchestrated self-titled debut was a sleeper gem in 2014. The lengthy 13-song album blends the best of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic psychedelia into a cohesive document echoing the wild improvisation that thrives in the city's left-field jazz hangouts such as Elliott Street Deli & Pub. The Atlanta-based eight-piece ensemble has remained quiet for much of the last year, but recently returned with a handful of performances on the calendar, and a promise of new material coming later this fall.
