As fall weather brings a chill to the air, and symbols of darkness emerge as Halloween draws near, Atlanta's young and ambitious rock trio, the Head, have prepared a new album to offset the doom and gloom of October. With sunny, piano-driven melodies reminiscent of the peppy hits from the 1960s golden age of pop, the Head embraces an innocence that's all wrapped up in fun, harmony-rich power-pop that insists you dance the night away.
The new EP, Girls of the Yukon, will be released on October 22, making it the band's third release since its 2009 debut, Puckered. Named after a 1980s Playboy photo spread, the Head's latest offering continues drawing inspiration from years before the group's members were even born. Noow, they're gearing up for a pre-release party this Friday at the Star Bar where the group will be handing out free copies of the CD to everyone that shows up.
Fri., Sept. 27. $7. 9 p.m. The Head (Girls of the Yukon CD release) with Mammabear and Jade Lemons + the Crimson Lust. The Star Bar 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018.
