It seems the merry aural pranksters of ROAM are back with a new episode in the curious audio series, featuring a packed lineup of names from Atlanta and beyond. Staples in the local music, film, and animation scenes all bring their own unique take on brief, humorous asides, one-liners, and comical brainteasers while surprising guests pop in here and there, including Laraaji, the former busker discovered by Brian Eno in the late ’70s. Dedicated to Al Feldstein and framed in a mock-talk radio format, the episode’s hosts revel in a groan-inducing world of back-pocket one-liners, puns, and observational humor. But there’s more than novel fuckery here. In true ROAM fashion, the curators and contributors involved approach often clichéd themes (family scrapbooks or holiday music) with sincerely heartfelt and unique approaches. The overall effect is a fascinating package of outsider humor, the kind perpetrated by basement producers who don’t think anyone else is listening or cares. Eventually though, these bizarre curiosities find their audience and we have cult heroes like Longmont Potion Castle, Negativland, Mystery Science Theater, and now ROAM.
