Tyler, the Creator vs. 2Dopeboyz and Nah Right

How to cyber-rape, no rap, your way onto unhip hip-hop blogs

Image

?
Looks like the L.A.-based hip-hop anarchist's latest antics are haunting vanguard blogs NahRight.com and 2dopeboyz.com, the longtime nemeses of Odd Future leader, Tyler, the Creator. According to his recent tweets, he's been advertising the May 10 release of his new album Goblin on both sites for the past few days without them having any knowledge of this direct link. The link opens to a picture of Buffalo Bill and features a sample of a single from the upcoming album. After the song plays, text appears with the words "Fuck 2Dopeboyz and Nah Right." Guess this is the 2011 way to say "nah nanny boo boo" as he recently tweeted to Nah Right, "O Yeah, YONKERS is At 3 Mil. Proud Of Me Yet?" in reference to the number of YouTube views his weeks-old video "Yonkers" has gained.

?
This isn't the first time Tyler has publicly aired his displeasure for the two influential rap blogs. Check out the first 20 seconds of the intro to 2009's Bastard, below, where he blasts the blogs for naysaying on his self-entitled, 18-year-old swag.

Vegan Coke has been sludging through the trenches that is the local prog scene of Atlanta for a good while now. Their progress has become more evident as they've acquired a new bass player to replace the old one, and they've got a live EP available for download on their bandcamp page. Recently they played a packed free show at 529 with buzz band Fang Island and impressed the shit out of Nicholas the guitarist of Fang Island (formerly of techgrind outfit Daughters). In fact, he was spotted wearing a Vegan Coke tee at SXSW. Big deal? Maybe. Word has it that Cathy Pellow of Sargent House Records only signs bands that her current label signees are digging. Take note, Sargent House. Atlanta wants in.

Listen to "Peter Paul and Mary Frippin' Out" and maybe it will help you decide.

New Atlanta band Baby Baby has been generating quite a bit of buzz recently. After playing numerous local shows, they've been taking their tunes out on the road and collecting significant clumps of fans along the way. This is one of those bands you're either gonna love or hate, because while the music itself isn't the most original, their genuine performances seem to fire people up, making even the most hesitant music snob a fan. They've managed to create a live persona that's all their own while attracting bro dudes, hipsters, and blipsters with relatable stories of dates gone wrong and failed expectations — delivered with the kind of swag that thrives on giving naysayers their comeuppance. That seems to be a favored topic of frontman Fontez Brooks, whom you might liken to an American version of Eddie Argos. Their most notable song, "Fire," is a rousing anthem of a sing-along that practically makes audiences indefensible against the urge to join them in their happy, glorious, drunken party happenings.

?
Currently signed to new local label Gospel of Rhythm Recordings, they will release their first official album, Money, on May 21 with a show at the Drunken Unicorn. With plans to embark on a small spring tour in Arpil, they already caught the attention of Paste at SXSW, garnering the No. 98 slot in their 100 best of SXSW lineup. If you're a fan, chances are you'll want to help them out by donating a lil' somethin' somethin' to the Kickstarter campaign they've launched to purchase a tour van. (That makes the second such request from an Atlanta band in as many months, in case you're counting.) For now, I'll leave you with the video to the song responsible for their underground notoriety: "Fire"

The official release for Ethereal's upcoming album Abstratica is set for June 11 and will be released via Yelawolf's Slumerican Records imprint. Ethereal has been killing it in the underground for some time now — with solo projects known for chill soundscapes — and also as half of the lesser known 8-bit duo Optimus Pikachu. His upcoming album features appearances from Yelawolf, Rittz, Opio of SOM, Kosherbeets, and none other than Hal Williams of OFWGKTA/Jet Age of Tomorrow. Mark my words: We'll be hearing big things from Ethereal in the near future, things that could turn a page in Atlanta's hip-hop scene.

So, apparently B.o.B has a new diss track out in response to Odd Future leader Tyler, the Creator's single "Yonkers," on which he goes in on B.O.B and his indie pop "Airplanes" swag.

?
B.o.B.'s track leaves some wondering if it's really a diss, because it seems to be a bit mild and doesn't directly drop Tyler's name. But with the track bearing the title "No Future" and with B.o.B referencing lost Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt's song "Pigeons," chances are highly likely that it is indeed a response. Weak? Maybe. But Tyler seems to have been taken by surprise.

Chaz Bell is a relatively unknown local virtuoso, but I have a feeling that won't be the case for much longer. Already cemented in the tech-grind/grindcore scene as the vocalist of An Isle Ate Her, Bell is poised to make waves in other microgenres: namely, glo-fi. Today's song is off Hips Like Cinderella's debut EP, all the girls i know all of them — the solo project Chaz has been working on. You can check out more Hips Like Cinderella songs on bandcamp.

Also noteworthy is Chaz Bell's work with hip-hop and 8-bit. Listen to "Street5" which will put you in the mind of Diplo. If you're really feeling the path he's on, you can delve a bit further and check out this this 8-bit jazz track."
