2 Chainz changed his name and started a damn Realigion

Enrollment at The Real University is open all year” says the artist formerly known as Tity Boi”

With the release of his mixtape, T.R.U. Realigion Atlanta rapper 2 Chainz is achieving a new level of personal success. Sure, he found himself in the spotlight with his partner in rhyme, Dollar Boy, as Playaz Circle with their 2007 hit “Duffle Bag Boy.” But this time, he’s on his own and no longer with Ludacris’s Disturbing Tha Peace imprint. With his single “Spend It” burning up airwaves this summer (an added verse from the recently-liberated T.I. didn’t hurt), the time was right for Tity-2 Chainz to hook up with DJ Drama to drop his very own Gangsta Grillz.

2 Chainz, who opened up to Vibe about his name change, said that the switch from Tity Boi to 2 Chainz was natural for him.

“I did a song called ‘Dear Mr. LA Reid’ and someone else said Tity-2 Chainz and I had been saying it all the time but I guess the stars lined up,” revealed Tity. “Then definitely the way I said, the delivery, 2 Chainz made it lady- and kid-friendly.”

Whether it was the name change or his “griming” — a combination of grinding and timing, as he says on the intro to T.R.U. Realigion, 2 Chainz is making a splash of his own while getting his collabo on with the likes of Big K.R.I.T. and Juicy J:

Big K.R.I.T. - Money on the Floor (ft. 8ball & MJG and 2 Chainz)

Juicy J - Zip & A Double Cup (RmX)(ft. 2 Chainz & Tha Joker)

In a recent interview, T.I. mentioned 2 Chainz as one of two artists who may very well hold the key to the future of Atlanta rap (the other, of course, being Future). T.I.’s only caveat: 2 Chainz must make his next move his best move. How he follows up his current success will determine whether or not he’s still the talk of the town in 2012.
