Noted acts
?MAN OR ASTRO-MAN?, KINGSIZED — Interstellar space geeks whose driving dance-rock ranges from classic '60s twang to what might well be the chart-topping electronica of the Year 2525, the crazed Athens rockers Man or Astro-Man? put on one of the wildest, most entertaining live shows around. Opening act Kingsized are titans of swing-a-billy whose towering lead singer, Mike Geier, has one of the smoothest and strongest voices in the Southeast. In the shameless self-promotion department, it should be mentioned that this show will celebrate Creative Loafing's annual Best Of Atlanta issue. Variety Playhouse (Nicoll)
SOULS OF MISCHIEF, X-ECUTIONERS — The granddaddies of West Coast indie-rap (having been at it since the early '90s) team up with the high priests of East Coast turntablism for what should certainly be a fine exhibition of virtuoso hip-hop skills, both MC and DJ represented. Masquerade (Sarig)
ZEKE, NEW BOMB TURKS — Born in the maelstrom of then-grunge-happy Seattle in 1993, Zeke melds metal, punk, and nihilistic political lyrics, leaving audiences punch-drunk and asking to be hit one more time. In this show, they'll get what they ask for. New Bomb Turks, an Ohio band at the forefront of punk's ever-returning revival, follows with its own ferocious set. Echo Lounge (Allen)
