See & Do - Dance: Lift May 07 2010

Sat., May 15

Many people have the mistaken notion that dance is only for little girls in tutus. LIFT, Atlanta’s first all-male dance production, proves those haters wrong. Choreographers Daryl Foster and Terry Slade, as well as guest choreographer Christopher Huggins, formerly of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, focus on the six pillars of manhood: masculinity, sexuality, community, politics, fatherhood and spirituality. Talented dancers from a variety of backgrounds such as Atlanta Ballet, MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew,” Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE, Ballethnic Dance Company, the Juilliard School and Morehouse College will make you rise out of your seat. $20-$25. 2 and 8 p.m. Hertz Stage, Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree St. 404-733-5000. www.liftdance.org.
