Profile - Flynn DeMarco

Creator of GayGamer.net

Flynn DeMarco, a gay man and avid gamer, got tired of the anti-gay slant he typically found in video-game forums. So he launched his own site: a space for gay gamers to talk openly about their opinions on games — and their feelings toward characters. Since its launch on July 4, 2006, GayGamer.net has grown in popularity. It now boasts 12,000-15,000 visitors a day.

DeMarco has been a gamer since the mid-’80s, starting off on Pac-Man and Pong.

Originally from Baltimore, he lived in New Orleans for five years before relocating to Atlanta after Hurricane Katrina.

In New Orleans, he ran a theater company called Running with Scissors, and wrote, directed or starred in 16 plays.

Flynn is currently a graphic designer at GameTap, a video-game service that gives subscribers access to downloadable games. He’s also a weekend editor at Kotaku.com, which is the biggest gamer blog on the Net.

He’s played the ukulele for six years. “I really love to play the tin-pan alley music of the ’20s and ’30s that the ukulele is known for.”
