Real killings, a fake killing and dancing Indians

On Friday, families and supporters of people killed by DeKalb County Police held a somber protest outside Police headquarters. DeKalb officers have killed 11 people this year, more than police in L.A. or New York. DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones prayed with the protesters but told them he supports the Police Department.

On Sunday night, artist Ben Fain staged Gemini’s Brine, a performance-art rumination on power that included the dramatized execution of a policeman. It was an ordinary event, except for the showgirls dressed up as syringes, the dueling unicorns, the giant tooth float, and Bain himself, who wore a mask with a huge head and five scopes for eyes.

For four days last week, Stone Mountain Memorial Park hosted an Indian Festival & Pow-Wow. It took place on the Park’s Antebellum Plantation, in the shadow of the park’s giant monument honoring three men who fought to keep slavery legal.
