Comic’s Weekly Roundup: Song Missing celebrates Johnny Cash

Atlanta has one of the best comedy scenes in the country, and each week is filled with plenty of opportunities to see some of Atlanta’s best local comics and visiting national touring acts. He’s your best bets for getting into some funny business.
Mon., June 1 Tonight, comedy returns to local Atlanta Brewery, Second Self. Hosted by Travis Jones, Comedy Night at Second Self takes place the first Monday of the month and has been steadily growing. Tonight’s show features stand-up from Jeffrey Stephenson, Greg Behrens, Mike Kaiser, Dayne Swerdling, Austin Chardac, Olive Lynch, Matt Mixon, and Clara Nibbelink. Doors at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m. $15 gets you in, a souvenir glass, and beer tokens.
Tue., June 2Tuesday night marks the return of one of Atlanta’s few weekly showcases; it’s the Standup Hour. Dan Immke hosts a short line-up of some of his favorite local comedians down at Midtown Tavern. This week’s line-up includes David Perdue, Ian Aber, Trey Dunn, Mo Arora, and headliner Dan Weeks. The show is free and starts at 9 p.m.
Wed., June 3Hot damn, I love this show. A spinoff of the (also amazing) movie-centric show Scene Missing, Song Missing returns this week to the Village Theatre. Comedian Chris Ledford host a night of music, comedy, and other performances based on the songs of Johnny Cash; it’s Song Missing Presents: I WALK THE BELTLINE. This month’s show will feature performances from Kevin Saucier, Caleb Synan, William Miracle, Jason Pierce Mallory, Stephanie Farley, Jack Walsh, Annalise Kaylor, and Patrick Best with music from house band Noel Stephen and the Darlings Named Sue. This is one of the best live shows in town, creating an incredibly fun party atmosphere. Don’t miss it, folks. Doors open at 8 p.m., show at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 online; $15 at the door.
Thurs., June 4
======This Thursday, the Laughing Skull Lounge will be hosting a special show. LA comedian (former ATL comic) and documentarian Tushar Singh host a night of comedy alongside some of India’s funniest comics. It’s American Hasi Presents: Brownies. Joining Singh will be Kenny Sebastian, Abish Matthews, Kaneez Surka, and Neal Reddy. Show starts at 8 p.m.
The Weekend
======This weekend you can check out Jo Koy at the Improv. The comedian will be headlining five shows at the Buckhead comedy club Thursday through Saturday. Koy was a regular on “Chelsea Lately,” has appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “The Tonight Show” and has two Comedy Central specials.
