Review: Moulin Rouge" knows what Atlanta wants"

A mix of dance, Parisian glamor and dissipation seem just right

Whoever gave the final thumbs up to the decision to bring “Moulin Rouge” to the stage in Atlanta deserves a raise and probably a trip to Paris. I've been going to the theater here long enough to have a sense of what Atlanta audiences like, and this show seemed like some sort of freaky, honed laser-beam aimed directly at the pleasure center of the brains of Atlanta theater-goers.

Romance, dance, a little humor, a little tragedy, mixed with some sexiness and glamor in a compelling story don't seem like a terribly difficult combination, but it's surprising how easily a show can miss the mark, and it's also surprising how pleasurable it can be when a simple, straightforward, cute show gets it right.
