Atlanta dancers take the Beltline
Don’t miss these 5 free dance performances along the proposed transit loop this month
- Karley Sullivan
- Blake Dalton and Derrick Causey of Crossover Movement Arts
We hinted recently that Atlanta’s dance community has been planning a long overdue takeover of the city. In our estimation, they’ve now entered Phase One of that plan, which from now on we’ll refer to as “the November Plot.”
How else to explain the sudden proliferation of fantastic, free performances up and down the strategically city-encircling Beltline all month long? The dancers will probably try to say it’s part of a commission by the city to promote the Beltline project and to build a sense of community through free public art. Yeah. Likely story.
The maneuver begins with Dance Truck’s presentation of Crossover Movement Arts at Stein Steel on Saturday, November 5. The next day, there’s a performance near Piedmont Park by Dashboard Co-Op’s Helen Hale (who was the subject of an insightful profile by Wyatt Williams in last month’s Arts Issue), and the following weekend Beacon Dance will create another part of their on-going Elements series behind Ansley Mall. Things cap off with three performances by gloATL the weekend before Thanksgiving.
