T-SPLOST supporters roll out the secret weapon named 'Ronald Reagan,' Sierra Club unveils hilarious cartoon

'We will be just like Portland! Or at least catch up with Dallas!'

You know things are getting heated when Ronald Reagan, The Last Great American™, jumps into the T-SPLOST debate. The 30-second spot, which focuses on the former president's record on investing in infrastructure, is one of three ads by Untie Atlanta, the business community's campaign to pass the 1-percent tax, that started airing yesterday. (Honest question to the conservatives who read Fresh Loaf — and I know you're out there: Does the use of Reagan in political ads and campaigns really have an effect?)

The second ad discusses the possibility of raising the gas tax and building more toll roads to deal with transportation issues. The third ad features Mayor Kasim Reed, former Ambassador Andrew Young, Fulton County Chairman John Eaves, and DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis.

The Sierra Club of Georgia, which opposes the tax because the project list includes too many roads and not enough transit, also rolled out a YouTube video clip yesterday — a 4:24 cartoon depicting a conversation between a T-SPLOST supporter and critic. There are some hilarious moments.

And in case you missed it on the homepage: CL's T-SPLOST special issue — including our stance on the measure — is now online and in newsracks around the city.
