APD: Man killed in Castleberry Hill shooting ‘not a random target’

Police say man was pumping gas before being shot

Atlanta Police are looking into a shooting that left one man dead this afternoon in Castleberry Hill.

According to APD, the man was shot and killed around 12:10 p.m. near the corner of Northside Drive and Markham Street, one block away from Friendship Baptist Church. Authorities found the victim, who has not yet been identified, dead in a Chevron station parking lot outside an adjacent Subway restaurant.

Fox 5 reports that the victim is “believed to be in his 20’s” and tweeted an aerial photo that showed more than a half dozen cars on the scene:

APD spokeswoman Kim Jones tells CL the victim was “not a random target” and that the Homicide Unit has started an investigation.

“Witnesses stated that the victim was pumping gas when he was shot by a black male who walked up from the street,” she says.

While no information about the gunman has been released, CBS Atlanta reporter Bernard Watson tweeted that the crime appeared to be an “execution style” shooting:
