Huffpost Live debates the impact of OutKast

The GOATs inspire a critical breakdown, and beatdown, yet again

HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill necessarily got his ass handed to him yesterday upon suggesting that Big Boi is Chris Bosh to Andre 3000’s Lebron James. Indeed, the mostly southern panel had something to say about that. But the overall conversation “OutKast is Back But What Does That Mean” - featuring Red Clay Scholar Dr. Regina Bradley (#OutKastedConversations), recurring CL contributor Maurice Garland, musicologist Fredara Hadley, ESPN’s Bomani Jones, and Women’s/Pan-African Studies professor Kaila Story - was more proof that the duo continues to give cultural critics plenty to debate beyond the limits of music. In particular, they discuss how OutKast helped redefine Atlanta after the Civil Rights era and alternately expanded the nuances associated with blackness, southern regionalism, queer aesthetics and all of the above. Shame on you, MLH.
