So with festival season upon us, pops back on the corner, and every patio in Atlanta brimming with al fresco diners, there’s only one thing left to make this year’s city “springscape” complete: the return of farmers markets.

The end of April marks the beginning of farmers market season, and oh, how we’ve missed you. As the Atlanta local food movement continues to gain momentum, market goers can expect the 2012 season to be bigger and better than ever.

According to Katie Hayes, market manager for the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market (EAVFM), “This season the market is jam-packed with local food, entertainment and more vendors than ever before.”

Hayes, who also serves as the Executive Director of Community Farmers Markets, took over as market manager in 2010 before starting EAVFM’s sister market, the Grant Park Farmers Market (GPFM) in 2011.

“We have the highest percentage of urban farms in the country,” says Hayes, “and now the largest collection of urban farmers markets.”

The EAVFM kicks off on Thu., Apr. 19. After that, it’s 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays through Dec. 13. The GPFM kicks off Sun., Apr. 29, and then it’s Sundays from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. through Dec. 16.
