An urban bike tour to benefit Atlanta’s local food movement

The prestige and glory of winning the Tour de France not enough incentive for you to jump on a bike and start meandering through the country? Well what if you were rewarded for your pedaling with world class meals, not to mention the chance to witness Atlanta’s local food scene first hand? Atlanta’s first annual Tour de Farm event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13 and Sun. Oct. 14 and consists a two-day bicycle tour of urban farms, including great meals, and an overnight camping trip on an international farm site.
All of the farms, gardens, and producer sites on the tour are vendors or partners of the East Atlanta Village and Grant Park Farmers Markets. You will have the option of being a part of the whole tour with camping or attending for one day only. Meals and snacks will be provided along with a dinner prepared by guest Chef Angus Brown of the Octopus Bar. All proceeds from the tour will benefit Community Farmers Markets, Inc. and the urban farm sites. If you’re interested, sign up to be a part of the first annual “Tour de Farm.”

While farm tours and bike tours are common, it’s not often you get to camp on an urban farm and have a casual dinner with an up-an-coming chef and the international farmers that grew the food. It’s also unique experience for all of the guests, because they get to not only see the backyards and patched pieces of land that urban farmers are utilizing — they also get to see behind the scenes of some of the most popular new food entrepreneurs. From experiencing sausage making hands-on to perfecting a croissant, the event will highlight the most unique and edgy parts of the Atlanta local food scene.
