Omnivore - Where to watch the 2014 World Cup in Atlanta

• WATCH AND LEARN: Atlanta has plenty of options for World Cup-watching

A little over a month after we learned Atlanta would welcome its first Major League Soccer team in 2017, CL devoted a cover package that asked an obvious question: Is Atlanta a soccer town? The answer was a yes - a definite yes. Now, the 2014 FIFA World Cup is on and the United States is off to a good start. (Did you see John Brooks’ last-minute header goal for the win against Ghana on Monday night!?)

Because Atlanta is an emerging soccer town, a slew of restaurants and bars are screening World Cup games, offering special, and throwing soccer parties. So, with week one of the tournament down and four more to go, here’s a roundup of some places to drink, eat, and watch the World Cup. (And in case you were wondering, the U.S. is scheduled to face off against Portugal this Sunday at 6 p.m.)

Ri Ra Irish Pub: Ri Ra Irish Pub and some of the realest soccer fans in Midtown are screening every World Cup match live plus serving $2.50 Bud and Bud Lights and $4 Harp and Smithwick Shandys.

Republic Social House: How about a couple $3 Yuengling tall boys (16 ounces) to go with your World Cup? Republic’s rooftop patio also does not suck.

Ration & Dram: This new Kirkwood joint does have a television, and it will be tuned to soccer. If you’re in the mood for a more sophisticated libation to go with your unbridled hooliganism, bartender extraordinaire Andy Minchow and his crew will be happy to mix you up a caipirinha in honor of the host country. A bittersweet Fernet and Coke would probably work, too. Hit up R&D for a Monday match and enjoy $1 oysters, too.

The Elder Tree: East Atlanta Village more your speed? Chill out at the Elder Tree’s new tented beer garden. It’s got a big screen! And there will be live bands on the weekends, plus raffles and prizes all month. Specials include all Sweetwater beers, Magner’s Cider, Jack Daniel’s and well drinks for $4. There’ll be some food specials for $4 too.

The Midway Pub: Right down the street, World Cup mania abounds at Midway - just follow all the screaming, yelling, and general rowdy behavior. Watch inside or on big screens outside on Midway’s giant patio. Sign up for a Midway World Cup Passport and collect stamps that’ll earn you Midway money for every day you watch.

Brewhouse Cafe: This L5P pub is a temple to soccer all the time, not just during the World Cup. Just go. Everyone and their momma to be there too.

Victory Sandwich Bar: Sip on a Jack and Coke slushie and grub on small sandwiches at Victory whenever the World Cup is playing. They’ll be screening games on the big projector in the dining room.
