Illegal Foods coming soon to Virginia Highlands

Illegal Food is making it legit with a much anticipated move to a full-service restaurant in Virginia-Highland. The beloved pop-up exited Joystick Gamebar this summer and has been on the lookout for a permanent location after such great reception from the community. Executive chef and co-owner Steven Lingenfelter will continue to serve fan favorites like “The Hank” in addition to a full menu of appetizers, entrées, sandwiches, and desserts.

Illegal Food will move into the space formerly occupied by Bar Meatball with a seated dining room, seated bar, and a covered patio. Attention to high-quality standards with the freshest regionally sourced ingredients is what Illegal Food is all about. Everything down to the sour cream will be made from scratch and in-house. Meats will be sourced from the heritage breed and pasture-raised farms of Gum Creek (pork), Brasstown (beef), and Grass Roots (poultry). Expect fan favorites like the “Fungus Among Us” burger and those cracktastic okonomiyaki-style fries with bonito flakes.

With a full-service restaurant comes a craft beer listing and a bar program. Lingenfelter, a native of Kentucky, will have a wide selection of bourbons both for tasting and as the key influences for the Southern-inspired cocktail menu.

Check ’em out in early December 2014, Tuesdays-Fridays for dinner (starting at 5 p.m.) and lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. www.illegalfoodatlanta.com.
