New Music Monday: 5 fresh cuts from Atlanta's finest

Mattiel, Dillon & Diamond D, DJ Lord, Big Brutus and St. Beauty deliver a late summer soundtrack


This week's New Music Monday kicks off with the premiere of Mattiel Brown's "Send It Over." It's the second song on her self-titled Burger Records debut LP. Mattiel plays an LP release show on Fri., Sept. 29, at Collect On Sunday, 626 North Highland Ave. N.E. The show is free and the music starts at 8 p.m. Opening acts are to be announced, so stay tuned for more.



Dillon Vaughn Maurer and Diamond D are back on track with a new EP, titled Black Tie Affair. The EP boasts five fearless old school boom bap numbers rendered with the kind of class, humor and silky smooth tales decadence that only these two can deliver. Check out that brass on "Let the Horns Blow." These longtime cohorts are pushing the boundaries of anything and everything that everyone has come to expect from them both. Bonus: Pick up that limited edition 12-inch for Diamond D's instrumentals on the B-side.

Public Enemy's DJ Lord has had a banner year so far. On the heels of releasing PE's latest album, Nothing Is Quick In the Desert, all the while crisscrossing the globe with Prophets of Rage, preparing to release the group's self-titled debut Sept. 15, Lord found time to team up with Peyote Cody for a heavy as hell new mixtape moshtape. Lord Of The Prophets: Metal Shrapnel Moshtape Vol. One is a bombastic blend of beats, lyrics and shredding guitars featuring cuts by everyone from Ice T to Iron Maiden Killer Mike to Iron Reagan. Big Brutus, aka singer-songwriter and guitarist Sean Bryant, has announced the Oct. 6 release date for his next album, America Circa, which will arrive via Brooklyn's Paper Garden Records. Press play above on the album's first single, "Consumer Machine." The album veers from the personal, internal and emotional themes of Bryant's prior release to address issues of political corruption and racism in modern America.

Big Brutus plays the East Atlanta Strut on Sat., Sept. 23 and Plasma Fest on Sat., Oct. 14.



And last, but not least, Alexe Belle and Isis Valentino, aka St. Beauty released "Caught," a slow rumination on being wronged in a relationship. Both "Caught" and fellow Atlantan Roman GianArthur's single "Boatline" appeared on the soundtrack to HBO's "Insecure."
