On Aug. 5, 1966, the Beatles released their seventh album in the U.K., Revolver. It was the first step in an adventurous direction for the Fab Four, combining rock ’n’ roll excellence, psychedelic flourishes, and strings galore. For this performance, Kenny Howes and the Wow lead a procession of Atlanta and Athens musicians as they pay homage to Revolver in its entirety — “Eleanor Rigby,” “Good Day Sunshine,” “Got To Get You Into My Life,” and all the rest. Strings, horns, and a few other Beatles numbers are part of the program as well — including the “Paperback Writer” b/w “Rain” single. Diamond Street Rhythm Machine open the show with a set of their favorite instrumental hits made circa ‘66, and DJ Rod Hamdallah spins records before and after both sets.
