Georgia-born Godfather of Soul James Brown released three Christmas albums in his day. The classic, Santa-shaking LP James Brown’s Funky Christmas is his greatest hits collection for the holidays. This show, put on by the ATL Collective, features a stocking-stuffed lineup curated by local funk mastermind Kevin Scott.
Fred Wesley and Ruby Velle, pictured above, along with Duane Trucks, Col. Bruce Hampton, Marshall Ruffin, King Baby, Dashill Smith, and more are lined up to play the hits. Expect this crew to bring the holiday heat as the render the Godfather’s wintertime jams, causing the audience to say please, please, please play one more.
