Spelman Museum of Fine Art Presents Adornment by Jessica Scott-Felder
From the venue:
The Spelman College Museum of Fine Art will host the interactive work Adornment by artist Jessica Scott-Felder on Wednesday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. She is featured in the Museum's new exhibition AFRICA FORECAST: Fashioning Contemporary Life. Scott-Felder's original work is informed by the standards of dress, beauty, and style that influenced how Spelman College students behaved and dressed from the 1920s through the 1960s. A conversation with Spelman Museum Curator Anne Collins Smith and archivist Holly Smith follows. Scott-Felder, a Spelman graduate, earned a bachelor's degree in fine art with a concentration in art education and received an MFA in drawing, painting and printmaking from Georgia State University. Scott-Felder uses her skills in drawing and constructing antique objects to transform spaces into psychological realms that convey ancestral and social storytelling. She uses her work to address issues in heritage, identity, culture and society's disconnection to the past. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Spelman Museum of Fine Art (GPS Address: 440 Westview Drive, Atlanta 30310).
