Join Emory Medical Alliance and Emory Pride for a post-Pride festival screening of the iconic documentary Paris is Burning. The film provides an upclose and personal look into the black and Latino stars of New York City’s underground ballroom scene during the mid-to-late-’80s. Get a crash course in drag performance, the art of voguing, and slang born from the culture. Consider it the foundation for legendary queen RuPaul’s “Drag Race.” After the screening, a panel of local celebrity judges will discuss the film’s legacy and the erasure of queer and trans people of color from historic and contemporary social justice movements. Head to Emory University School of Medicine, room 130
