CENCIA presents, as part of the Southern Writers Onstage series, award-winning Atlanta actress Brenda Bynum performing Jordan Is So Chilly: An Encounter with Lillian Smith, her original adaptation of Smith’s writings. Smith was a Georgia civil rights activist and author who openly confronted controversial topics in the segregated south. Smith gained national recognition in 1944 with the publication of Strange Fruit, her bold novel of interracial love. She courted controversy again in 1949 with the publication of Killers of the Dream, an unabashed criticism of segregation, racism, and oppression in the south.
