Am I Enough: The representation of black women in global popular culture

This panel discussion, hosted by Yema Thomas of The Atlanta Ginga Project, will explore the ongoing struggle of African and African descendant women for aesthetic and cultural equity in a world still fueled by the myths of black pathology. Panelist will include Jamaican born artist Yanique Norman, Haitian American Writer Annabella Jean Laurent, and Afro-Brazilian Scholar Sandra Regina Barbosa Soares Coleman. In addition to the confirmed panelist, one open chair will be left for audience participants to come forward and join the conversation. This panel is in conjunction with the exhibitions Lesson on how to be a more interesting woman by Jamaican born artist Yanique Norman and In-betweenness by South Korean artist Namwon Choi.
