Ensemble Vim’s mission to “Ignite the spark – unite the arts” is alive in the MOCA GA Galleries!
In its inaugural year (2024-2025), Ensemble Vim’s Spark Festival has partnered with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) to pair three composer fellows from across the country with three Atlanta-based visual artists. Uniting music and visual art to foster innovation, creativity, and collaboration, spark elevates the arts both in the Southeast and nationally.

Throughout the course of the year, these teams were given resources to collaborate on an interdisciplinary work, leading up to Sparkweek, where they gathered in Atlanta to rehearse with ensemble vim and put the finishing touches on their projects. The festival culminated in a grand showcase performance of all the works, an event held at MOCA GA on Monday, February 10.
This exhibition showcases the finished works, both visual art and audio visual recordings of the original music compositions played in the MOCA GA galleries by Ensemble Vim musicians.
Celebration: The Past Forward
Oct 26, 2024 - Feb 1, 2025
12pm - 5pm
In September of 2002, several months after the inaugural exhibition featuring Martin Emanuel, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia opened not only its galleries, but its offices, hallways and storage areas in order to “celebrate” the Museum’s new permanent collection of visual art by Georgia artists. 250 individual pieces, donated from the Corporate Collection of CGR Advisors and David Golden, as well as several works donated by individual supporters encompass MOCA GA’s Founding Collection. The exhibition was titled simply “Celebration Exhibition of the Permanent Collection”
Today, in conjunction with our year-long celebration leading up to our 25th Birthday, (marking 25 years since the signing of MOCA GA’s articles of incorporation and 501C3 status), we once again celebrate the founding collection! With a selection of works from that premier exhibition, we harken back to the beginning, as we begin our journey towards a bright new future in West Midtown.
Back in 2002, Co-Founder and Director Annette Cone Skelton stated “The pieces we’ll show through this fall exhibition are representative of artists from many locations and generations of Georgia. We believe it’s important to understand the evolution of Georgia’s artists, and this show helps to achieve that.” Almost 25 years later, MOCA GA continues showing the development and triumph of Georgia artist through its significant permanent collection and archives.
