CRITIC’S PICK: & Juliet, Fox Theatre - This bouncy musical raises the question of Juliet’s fate had she taken a post-Romeo stab at life instead of committing suicide in Shakespeare’s original tragedy. That accounts for the weird title. Created by ‘Schitt’s Creek’ producer Dan Levy, the production features the extensive oeuvre of Swedish composer Max Martin, known for hits like ‘Oops… I Did It Again’ and ‘I Kissed a Girl,’ both of which are included in the show, among plenty of others. It first opened in London’s West End in 2019 and was praised for the diversity of its cast, one of whom was presented as a non-binary character. Some critics, though, lamented the inanity of the storyline and deemed it light fare. The script contains some swearing, “fairly mild” sexual references, strobes and flashing lights, loud noises, pyrotechnics and confetti cannon. - Kevin C. Madigan
