CRITIC’S PICK: Lady Bunny: Don’t Bring The Kids, Helium Comedy Club - “My humor is outrageous, my look is over the top, and my politics are in your face. That’s just the way I am!” So says Lady Bunny, drag icon, comedian, recording artist and DJ known for her enormous bouffant, caustic wit, and outright rudeness. Bunny started out in Atlanta working with an unknown Ru Paul; they both appeared in a pioneering music video show called The Now Explosion on a local television station, years before MTV even existed, prior to relocating to the Big Apple to find fame. Bunny is coming back to town, appearing at the Helium, with new material focusing on Ozempic, P. Diddy and how Trixie Mattel stole her look, among other putdowns, as well as an audience singalong about Joe Biden. The show is, of course, strictly for grownups. “I make sure to put language on the ticket link specifying adults only. Yet still, conservatives want to call me a groomer,” Bunny says. “Have they seen my wigs? I can barely groom myself!”
On its website, the venue cautions: “Management reserves the right to prevent customers from entering the facility who they deem disruptive or dangerous to other patrons.” You have been warned. - Kevin C. Madigan
