Jerry Cantrell, Buckhead Theatre—Co-Alice in Chains founder guitarist Cantrell took over the band’s frontman and vocal duties after the 2002 death of Layne Staley. He worked on a solo career as well as fronting AIC for a while, but is now focused on the former with the release of 2024s intense I Want Blood. Unsurprisingly his own music isn’t far removed from AICs darker, at times prog-based, hard rock, and as a singer he’s nearly as potent as Staley. But it’s Cantrell’s guitar playing that’s most impressive, mixing metal and grunge with an ominous swampy attack. Expect AIC gems like “Rooster,” “Sea of Sorrow” and the band’s most streamed tune “Man in the Box,” along with a large swath of the new album. —Hal Horowitz
