The String Cheese Incident

CRITIC’S PICK
Thurs., Feb. 6
The String Cheese Incident, Tabernacle—These Colorado bred jamsters formed in 1993 but didn’t release their first album until 1997. At one time they described their music as a “sacrilegious mix of bluegrass, calypso, salsa, Afro-pop, funk, rock, and jazz” which is overly broad but generally truthful. About a dozen studio albums later—most on their own Sci-fidelity label-- they have narrowed that to focus on a rootsy, country-ish, Grateful Dead inspired pop, easy on the ears and perfect for twirl dancing. But with lots of live albums to their credit, the band was made for the stage, extending songs with frisky improvisation, making each show a unique experience. — Hal Horowitz
