Asleep at the Wheel, Gas South—Ray Benson and his instantly recognizable baritone voice has been fronting this legendary country swing Texas outfit for over half a century (2021s album was titled Half a Hundred Years), and doesn’t seem to be slowing down now. Regardless of who is currently in the band, and they are consistently top shelf, it’s always a party as Benson leads his troops through highlights from a catalog brimming with hundreds of originals, all of them pretty great, and of course some Bob Wills chestnuts. Even though Benson remains active, at 73 he’ll want to stop touring sometime, so catch him now. — Hal Horowitz
