Marty Willson-Piper and Blueburst with special guest Riley Schatz

CRITIC’S PICK
Tues., June 10
Marty Willson-Piper & Blueburst, Eddie’s Attic: It’s not often you experience a celebrated guitar hero at a club as intimate as Eddie’s. But that’s the case tonight as The Church’s longtime six and 12-string talent (1980-2013) takes the stage. He’ll be playing highlights from his clutch of solo albums released over the past few decades and probably a few Church ringers featuring his chiming tone. A few years ago he connected with Atlanta’s Craig Douglas Miller (Blueburst). Both will do solo sets, then join for a batch of songs from March’s 2023s Significance and its single “Kick My Tires,” which sounds like a harder-edged version of Willson-Piper’s old band. — Hal Horowitz

Marty Willson-Piper and Blueburst with special guest Riley Schatz live at Eddie’s Attic!
Marty Willson-Piper is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known as a longtime member of the Australian band The Church (1980–2013). Over a 45-year career, he’s built a rich body of work through solo records, collaborations with All About Eve and The Saints, and his own project Noctorum. In 2025, he launched Archaeological Dig, Volume. 1, a reimagined collection of songs spanning his career, featuring acoustic and orchestral reinterpretations of deep cuts and fan favorites like “Tristesse” and “Spark.” The album is the first in a planned trilogy and showcases Willson-Piper’s enduring lyrical and sonic depth.
Blueburst is Marty’s collaboration with Atlanta native Craig Douglas Miller, a guitarist and vocalist resurrecting a music career after a 20-year hiatus. Once poised for a breakthrough in the ’90s with his band The Reach, Miller returned to music after a transformative collaboration with Willson-Piper. Together, they crafted Blueburst’s acclaimed 2023 debut album Significance—a fierce, guitar-driven record rooted in ’80s alternative and post-punk influences but pulsing with present-day urgency. Described as “A lush, guitar-based sound deeply rooted in the legacy of ’80s alternative and post-punk,” Blueburst has been praised for its raw authenticity and cathartic lyricism.
On June 10th, Marty and Craig share the stage at Eddie’s Attic, performing solo and together. The evening will feature songs from Marty’s Archaeological Dig Vol. 1, Blueburst’s Significance, and a few unexpected covers that shaped their sound. This is a rare and intimate night of reflection, reinvention, and reinvigoration.
