{Consonance<>Dissonance}

CRITIC’S PICK — “My thought for this event is that there is beauty in noise of all kinds, whether it’s traditional harmony or dissonant noise,” says Will Hamilton, organizer of {Consonance<>Dissonance}, a program of experimental music at Railroad Earth in Emory Village.
Flying under the Freak Flag Freedom Party banner on Saturday are two duos, one featuring Alexandria Smith (trumpet, effects, electronics) and Iriamu, Hamilton's 'nom de guerre' (bass, effects, electronics); the other, Hot Trash, are core members of W8ing4UFOs, Brian Hollaran (cello, voice) and Bill Taft (guitar, voice). Tardia is a solo project by Thaïs Dahas (solo voice, guitar, effects), a Brazilian actress, filmmaker and songwriter now based in Atlanta. Be Not Afraid is Corey Curtis, who creates improvised soundscapes using handmade circuits and noise boxes. – Doug DeLoach

Per Encyclopedia Britannica:
Consonance and dissonance, in music, the impression of stability and repose (consonance) in relation to the impression of tension or clash (dissonance) experienced by a listener when certain combinations of tones or notes are sounded together. In certain musical styles, movement to and from consonance and dissonance gives shape and a sense of direction, for example, through increases and decreases in harmonic tension.
