Veterans of No Words ATL Duos Instrumental Music Festival
CRITIC’S PICK
Sat., Sep. 13
At eyedrum Saturday night, NoWordsATL 4.0 doubles up on the instrumental-only theme with “Veterans of No Words Duos,” a program of adventurous music performed by duets, many of whom are familiar to No Words concert regulars.
Among the pairings are danger-folk guitarists FLAP (Andy Hopkins & Matt Miller); NoWordsATL founder Ann Delay and throat singer/noise alchemist Aileen Loy; swinging-improvising-testifying bassist TJ Merritt and drummer Jordan Manley (LO-OP); W8ing4UFOs cello maestro Brian Halloran and banjo bowing former half of Duet for Theremin & Lap Steel Frank Schultz (FRANKS); and W8ing4UFOs founder, guitarist, trumpeter and master storyteller Bill Taft and peerless percussionist Kenito Murray.
Also on the bill are drummer/sound engineer Marcus “Rhythm” Williams who was scheduled to play with Eric “Sir Bucket” Solomon before the latter bowed out due to a wrist injury (no words at press time on a replacement). Rounding out the Duos lineup is multi-instrumentalist and WRFG DJ Chris Cook and Athens-based drummer Ryder Siegle.
Expect more than a few magical moments from this stellar selection of dueling music-makers. – Doug DeLoach
