[RECEPTION] Color Us Different: A Family of Artists
From the venue:
Step into the vibrant, imaginative world of the Aqui-Brooks family in “Color Us Different”, a multi-generational exhibition celebrating artistry, heritage, and bold self-expression. This dynamic show features works by Aqui-Brooks, her husband Bernard Brooks, and her father, the late Dr. Albert J. Carter—uniting three generations whose art carries forward a legacy of storytelling, cultural pride, and creative mastery.
Audiences will experience a stunning blend of dreams, fantasy, social commentary, ancestral narratives, and travel-inspired imagery, all rendered in bright, expressive color and intricate design. From Smithsonian-collected quilts and ceramic vessels to large-scale drawings, mixed-media works, and evocative portraits, the exhibition offers a rich interplay of mediums and themes.
Visitors are invited to join the artists during the September 13 reception, an exclusive opportunity to meet them in person, explore the inspiration behind their work, and engage in conversation about their creative journeys. This exhibition is both a visual feast and a heartfelt tribute to family legacy—Aqui-Brooks reflecting, “My father would be so proud.”
